What does it take to become a guitar virtuoso? Ask Zakk
Posted on February 14, 2005 | Filed Under Guitar, Music
If you want to know what it takes to become a guitar virtuoso, you should ask Zakk Wylde — Guitar World did. But if you’re going to ask Zakk a question, you better be prepared for the answer.
“When you can tell me who the player is after hearing just two notes,” is Zakk’s answer.
Being typical Zakk, he speaks his mind. Generally he is pissed because real musicians don’t get credit for their dedication and hard work, while no-talent pop artists sell tons of CDs. He let loose during the interview about the Ashlee Simpson episode on Saturday Night Live last October.
“She can’t even lip sync her fucking own songs, because she doesn’t write them,” said Zakk. “That talentless bitch hack gets invited to play on Saturday Night Live and sells six trillion records. It’s a complete insult to real musicians; it’s all smoke and mirrors. One night when I play, I may just put one of my CDs on the P.A., toss my guitar in the air, shove a hockey stick up my ass and walk around like a douche bag.”
I nearly fell off the chair when I read this. You have to love the fact that Zakk is so outspoken. Nobody else has the guts to say the things that he does.

hees right. real musicians hardly ever get the credit they deserve. pop stars are patheticly talentless, and the ones who work hard motly dont ever get credit, they get sent to an office. wat the hell am i gonna do. im going nowhere. if those fagass pieces of shit just moved aside and let talented people get wat they deserve, we wouldnt have theese types of problems
What Ahppened to Real Music…It Isn’t Mainstream anymore…And what happened to trashing hotel rooms, Groupies, and the rockstar life
there is Great music around today its just not mainstream……Many, Many great and very talatented guitarists will never be known as a virtusoso because the wern’t as popular…take alexi laiho from children of bodom, he is a brilliant guitarist
I can’t disagree with you there. Many guitarists will never be known and if it weren’t for luck years ago perhaps we never would have heard of Zakk either.
I read Alexi’s column in guitar world the last couple of months too.
Yeah maan I get hardcore technical for 6 hours everday. And it’s people like me and other more hour practicing guitarists. That cant make it. Becuase of all these fake pop, rap junk. LET US STRIVE TO MAKE! FOR THE LOVE OF ROCK N ROLL!!!!!!!
its all about appearances, those dickhead popstars look the part, but its not just popular shit, i played a gig and i practised bloody hard and we sounded really tight but this kid who is musically challenged gets all the credit cause he’s got long hair and played his guitar behind his head - but it sounded shit
Hey Zakk is totally right
All those chocolate candy sweet moherfuckers get all the credited for shaking thier booty , while he guys who playthier guitar and are true to themselves have o slog it out………Just o get a gig……thats wat the world has become……with all those music companies endorsing these Candy boys and girls………which u canot listen to more then once……
Its a sad world for striving guitarist… putting in all those years of hard practice and preserverance and getting beaten by some skanky pop star who sings out of note…
