For the first time in North America a pro sports league has canceled the entire season due to a labor dispute. I say, good! The players are trying to screw us by jacking up the prices of everything from tickets to popcorn, well screw you!
Being in Canada, I am an avid hockey fan (go Bruins) but I’ve had enough of this crap from the players. They have no right to whine and complain about only making a couple of million bucks a year. And hey, if it’s too much for you McDonald’s is always looking for people.
If the players are really worth as much as they say then I say give them a compromise. Pay the players all the same — say $100,000 a year and make the rest of it based on performance. You could measure that by goals/assists/penalty minutes whatever you want.
The players that do well, will be rewarded, those that don’t, get squat. That will give them an incentive to play the game and stop their moaning and groaning.
I hope they cancel next year too and then fold the league altogether and start again. The players also need to get rid of Bob Goodenow. He’s been an idiot for a long, long time.

I’m not an NHL fan at all, but would love to see a CHL (Continental Hockey League) restricted to the 6 original teams of the ’60s. THEN, I might watch.

And that’s when only the best players got into the league. There is so much holding and stick-work these days that the good players can’t shine.
If you can’t keep up without grabing on to someones jersey, maybe you should think about a new career.

I agree totally with you Jim. Cancel next season as well and get rid of Bob Goodenow who, after hearing him spack at his own news conference, sounded like the biggest DOLT of them all.
Honestly, though, I won’t say screw all the players… some only make an honest $100,000 (or less.) The ones I’m most furious at are those who make over $50 million and are now wining for more.

By the way, I think Mario Lemieux said it the best:
“As a player, I believed that the owners were making billions behind the players backs… but when I actually became an owner myself, I discovered the millions in losses each team must deal with.”
Most players don’t realise their teams LOOSE MONEY!!

I liked Mario’s comments too — I’m surprised the rest of the players aren’t listening!
