The Bank of America has reported losing 1 million customer records while they were being transported to the companies backup center. Records included customers and accounts of the U.S. government’s SmartPay charge card program, which has more than 2.1 million members.
How the hell does a financial institution lose customer records these days? Where the hell was the security?
In a statement the bank said, “the investigation to date has found no evidence to suggest the tapes or their content have been accessed or misused, and the tapes are now presumed lost.”
Oh gee, I would feel so much better that they presume the records are missing — they don’t even know!
