I scare little kids; old ladies scare me

I flew on a 757 (the plane with the door in the middle of First Class and the rest of the plane) out of San Francisco last night and scared the hell out of a little kid as he was getting on the plane. I also sat beside an old woman that scared the hell out of me.

I was sitting in the exit row, which on this plane meant that I was the first row as passengers walked in the door. This little boy, who could just walk but not talk walked on the plane with his parents following a bit behind him. For about 10 seconds it was just him and me — apparently this was bad news for him.

He looked at me with my new beard and began to wail. His father came in and said, “does that man scare you?” It was kind of funny. I should have started playing some Zakk Wylde and scared the whole damn family.

The scary old lady

I sat beside an older woman who basically screamed when she talked. She wasn’t old, like hunched over and could barely walk or anything like that — she was probably in her early to mid-sixties.

Everything was fine until she fell asleep.

At one point, out of nowhere, her arms shot straight up in the air and then she started flailing around like a crazy woman, grunting and making all kinds of strange little noises. I put my arms up to protect myself from getting hit — luckily I was successful.

She only did this once, but because of her flailing action she turned a bit sideways and was much too close for the rest of the trip.
