Today, Len, Brett, Adam, Michael and I booked a jungle trip on sea-doos, complete with some snorkeling off one of the coral reefs. Most of the trip went very well, but unfortunately a sea-doo accident put a damper on the day for me.
The trip to the coral reef went without incident — I hit one wave that made my back twinge a little, but we get going. It was probably 45 minutes or so getting to the coral reef — Michael and I had a blast. We were on the same sea-doo, so we were chatting the whole way.
Unfortunately the trip back wasn’t so good for me. We started off and hit full speed, skipping across the waves when my day was ruined. Michael and I hit a big wave, but when we hit the water we hit nose first and went straight under. The little twinge in my back turned into a major pain.
The sea-doo popped up out of the water and I checked on Michael — he was okay. The impact was great enough to activate the kill switch on the sea-doo, so we were dead in the water. I tried to get up to give the engine a kick and realized that I couldn’t move.
The tour guide came back, started the engine and off we went. I knew I was in trouble, but there was nothing I could do, but get us back to the dock. When I finally did, I could not move a muscle — I was basically paralyzed with pain.
My steps were very small and each one came with a lot of pain.
I got back to the hotel and things didn’t clear up much over the next few hours — by 9:00 p.m. I was in laying flat out in bed wincing at every move.
