Don’t get Podcasting? You’re not alone

Posted on July 6, 2005 | Filed Under Apple, Technology, iPod

If you don’t really get the new Podcasting phenomenon taking over the Web these days, you’re not alone. Macworld Editor Rob Griffiths, who admits to adopting technology rather quickly, doesn’t get Podcasting either.

“I have to admit, though, that this incredible surge of interest in podcasting has caught me completely by surprise. I have no idea why people find it so amazing and interesting. Though Podcasting is technically not a ‘new’ technology, since it’s been around for a few years, Apple’s recent change to iTunes and the Music Store has really brought it to the masses — hence it’s ‘new’ to a large number of people now.”

I don’t get it either. Most podcasting is complete tripe, done by completely unprofessional idiots who have no business sharing their uninformed opinions with the rest of the world.

Sure, the same complaint is made of us all time, but whatever.

The difference is we get to listen to it instead of just reading about it :-)

I really dig it. But then again, I’m a big NPR/BBC/talk radio listener. I like having shows downloaded at my convenience.

But what is it you feel you get from Podcasts that you don’t get from radio?

Do you also read the NPR Web site?

I don’t get it either. What’s the big deal?

I listened to a couple of podcasts listed in iTunes and I lasted less than a minute before I clicked them off.

Some people are really getting into them. It’s obvious by the numbers that Apple shows in their subscriptions — over 1 million

      Hey, flargh…

On behalf of all “completely unprofessional idiots who have no business sharing their uninformed opinions with the rest of the world”, whom you’ve apparently been listening to, I say a hearty THANKS!!! I guess it’s working. ;-)

Now if we could just get Peter to share some drunken opinions on MC ;-)

I get it…mind I don’t listen to major news shows or anything - audio blogs, so if you ready blogs like this…why not listen to someones audio blog? makes a change from listening to music on the way to work :)
