After a week of worrying about Michael, we finally have some good news to share. The first may seem small, but him it’s a big deal; the second item is huge for all of us.
Okay, the first item — He started eating again! Earlier in the week he had a few chunks of KFC, which led to some pasta and other soft foods. Michael lost eight pounds from his liquid diet, so seeing him eating is great for him and us.
The second bit of news — Michael went in yesterday for the first of his root canals, which were necessary because the teeth were dead after the accident. The doctor did some tests and Michael could feel the cold on his teeth, which meant they were not dead afterall.
The doctor sent him home and told Monique to come back in two months! If the teeth don’t die and turn black in the meantime, Michael is done with the accident. Of course, if the teeth die, we will have to do something with them, but we are keeping our hopes up.
He will still have to get a partial for the front tooth that is missing, but that’s okay. Overall, his spirits are very good.

I am so happy for Michael and you and Monique too. As a parent when our kids are in pain - physically or emotionally - so are we. Things are looking up!

Things are definitely looking up. I don’t know how long it will be before we let him out on his own though

Excellent news! Glad the teeth are sensitive! I hope they (and Michael) will remain healthy.

Jim:
Just checking on Michael to see how he is doing - has he gained back any of the 8 pounds that he lost?

He’s doing very well. The teeth aren’t turning black, so that’s always a good sign
His spirits are high and he’s starting to play with his friends again.

Perfect - boy sure wish we were as resilient as kids. Hope your finger is getting better - tape it to the one next to it so that it does not heal crooked. Take it from someone who knows!

Today, July 25, 2005, I gave permission to my son to go biking with his friend’s dad. They went where there are some jumps. Unfortunately, I got a call from the dad telling me that my son got hurt. I rushed to the park and saw my son bleeding from his mouth (the dad had told me that he had lost a tooth when he called me). I was so upset when I saw him, it was worst than I expected. I had brought a face towel that I put right a way in his mouth. He had one front tooth missing and the other one beside it. They were able to give me the front tooth and the other one I think my son had it in his hand but the all the action going on his dropped it. I rushed him to the children’s hospital which were really fast to react. They put his front tooth back in place, clued it to the other front tooth which is ok but is a bit loose. He now has one tooth missing beside the front tooth. The doctor was really good and told me his tooth might be ok but will probably require a root canal. My son is turning 8 in august. He was wearing his helmet at the time, thank god, it could have been worst. I shoud have kept him home and never let him go on those jumps. It was an accident, I am not blaming anyone for this except myself for letting him go. These jumps are very dangerous. My son is doing well. We will see the family dentist in one week to find out more on his tooth… I just wanting to share my story with you. Take care…..

It’s amazing how helpless we can feel in situations like that. I’m glad to hear he is doing well though. They are pretty strong!
