Why Does Windows have to be so stupid!

Posted on July 23, 2005 | Filed Under Apple, Internet, Mac OS X, Technology

I sat there this afternoon looking at my daughters Dell wondering why the hell it had to be so difficult to join a wireless network. A Mac is so easy — turn it on and it finds the network for you. That’s it, nothing else.

Do they make the Windows OS stupid on purpose? Does it make people feel good to be able to go through the stupid driver shit and click tab after tab after tab just to find the SSID for the network? God forbid you have a password on the network! Instead of typing in a password you need a 26 digit number.

There are so many dumbass dialogs that I finally gave up and called a friend who works with Windows all the time and works on the industry. I told him the problem and he said, okay you need to do this. That’s fine, except I don’t have the tab he is talking about.

After a few more suggestions, he said, “you have a problem.” This is a smart guy and the advice he was giving was sound. It’s Windows that’s stupid. As much as Microsoft is trying to make Windows more like the Mac, they have failed miserably.

Makes you glad to own a Mac, doesn’t it? It isn’t that Windows is stupid. It’s more like they purposefully made it so difficult to use. Keeps those techs employed. We couldn’t have ordinary folks actually be able to use their computers now would we? ;)

Microsoft hasn’t been able to copy just exactly HOW the Mac makes things easy yet! We’ll need to wait until Windows Vista, but that’s still more than a whole year away! :D

Windows is designed to make you use or loose your mind Jim.
Sometime when installing a wireless card you have to shut down remove the Ethernet card.
Reboot install the Wireless card software, shut down install the Wireless card, reboot say ten Hail Bill Gates and wait for Windows to find the card and software.
Sometime rebooting will hurry the system Bios thus loading the wireless hardware so Windows can load the software for your Wireless Card.
      Happy Surfing Jim
That was easy wasn’t It ?

      Swatty, you’re giving me a headache :-)

the experience you describe is why a lot of people are switching to macs. i find it appalling that a company as big as microsoft with vast resources puts out the software it does. i have to use a pc at work, but at home i use a mac. it’s wonderful to be able to harness technology rather than the other way around.

Sounds like an ad campaign gone terribly awry:

I can’t believe what I’m reading …. my 5 year old nephew, countless of other friends and family members, 80 year old father never had the problems I’m reading …. are you people just lame?

In the systray, bottom right corner there’s a wireless icon …. right click and view available wireless network if more than one is available …. how much simpler do you want it …. if everything was designed for the lowest common denominator like you stupid people …. those with half a brain would get tired of all the extra help features needed for those that forgot how to think
