Zakk Wylde has made a statement on the event surrounding members of the Osbourne entourage pelting Iron Maiden band members with eggs during their Ozzfest 2005 tour. Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson apparently berated Ozzy, sending Sharon Osbourne on a path of revenge.
“Iron Maiden were chosen for the Ozzfest tour because the Ozzfest committee felt they were a good band, plus the fact that they had not done shows in the U.S. for some time,” said Sharon in a statement. “From day one, Bruce Dickinson started berating Ozzy and belittling the Ozzfest audience. He stated he ‘didn’t need a reality show to give him credibility’; ‘We’re not just some fucking reunion band’; and continuously complained about the sound system, saying that when he comes back to America he’ll have a better one.”
Dickinson also complained in an interview about American audiences in general saying that “when you do the ‘hits’ tour here [in the U.S.], the audience is smug, and there’s a sense of self-satisfaction, like, ‘We got what we wanted … I’m looking at an audience that is self-satisfied and happy and fat, and getting what it wants and isn’t prepared to get off its ass.”
Although Zakk wasn’t personally involved, he made his views on the incident very clear in a prepared statement.
“Although I’m a huge fan of the IronMaiden band and their music, I have a problem with Bruce Dickinson talking shit about America and more personally, about the Godfather of my first born son.”

dickinson had every right to make fun of the person that isn’t even a shadow anymore of - once - king of metal. ozzy personally reduced the sabbath reunion to a very bad joke, leaving you unfulfilled every show. Iommi & co deserve better! the only thing that we can learn from the ozzfest-tour is the fact that maiden are in great forme and possibly the best metal band around. sabbath should stop touring with only the old classics, they have to go into the studio and make a kiler album like the ones they used to make.

I have loved Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath (And afterwards, Ozzy) for as long as I can remember. They are both kick-ass bands that can pretty much melt your face off.
But I gotta say that if Bruce wants to rant and rave about how Americans are…well…American…then he can hop right on his little private jet and fly far away. I hate it when you have an amazing band but a douche bag artist. If you don’t like America - then don’t play here. And keep your mouth shut, unless you’re singing a heavy metal rock tune.

If it wasn’t for Ozzy Osbourne there would’ve never been any heavy metal or hardrock, so there never would’ve been an Iron Maiden, in fact The original bandmembers of Iron Maiden (original singer, so not that asshole Dickinson) got there name from Ozzy Osbourne, he used to write THE IRON MAIDEN WAS HERE on walls when he was a kid. Ozzy Osbourne is the godfather of heavy metal. Allthough I realy hate ‘the osbournes’, Dickinson should just shut his fuckin’ mouth. I mean we’re all ‘GOING OF THE RAILS ON A CRAZY TRAIN’.

seems to me that this is a big fucking thing about mot much at all.
the whole affair smacks of unprofessionality. Bruce just wanted to put on a great show and hence all the upset at having their sound sabotaged. that doesnt justify having a go at Ozzy but all this small minded revenge stuff leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. How about we all grow up hey? i just find myself loosing respect for all concerned to be totally honest i feel let down.

Ozzy has been around forever. Maiden has been around forever as well, not as long i know. Both have put out a butt load of incredible albums both bands have gone through quite a few line-up changes. That, however, makes no difference when it comes to opinion. Bruce has his opinion, that IMHO is just about 100% true, and so did Sharon… Not Ozzy. Hmm. Why not? Zakk had an opinion… But again, not Ozzy… Yeah they should have taken it up with Bruce back stage and not fucked the fans, most of whom came to see Maiden anyway, I know I did. Just something to ponder on.

P.S. I’m American(USA American) and damn proud of it! But I’ve been to shows ALL over the states and I have seen first hand what Bruce spoke of. It’s almost a meaningless atmosphere compared to a London, Berlin, Tokyo, or Brazilian show. They just have way more energy and spirit for the show than we do. Also Bruce should not have made the comments about Ozzy that he did, at least not on stage, but you have to admit that, as Sharon said, without US press or radio play for years, Maiden can draw a crowd like no other(in metal that is… Clapton blows them, and Ozzy, away). Don’t get me wrong, I love both bands, but even with all the reality TV and talk shows with the Osbourne name on them, not to mention all the talentless boring bands on the Ozzfest tours, Ozzy hasn’t drawn much of a crowd in quite a while. Yet another point to ponder…

Without Ozzy and Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden would be shit. Right now America owns the metal scene. Bands like Dio, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, All That Remains, Autumn Offering kick ass. Pantera kept the metal scene going. Once Dickinson reaches Ozzies age he will be shit. I guarantee it, he can just not come back to America. Oh well, that is where most albums sales come from. But if he wants to be like that, he can leave Ozzfest and take his American-hating, Ozzy-bashing ass somewhere else. Iron Maiden is pussy metal, Slayer and Ozzy is hardcore shit.

For crying out loud, there shouldn’t even be a fucking argument here. Maybe Bruce was trashing on Ozzy, but honestly, whats there not to trash on? Hes to old to walk proper, he cant sing anymore, hes sold himself out to the world and married one of the biggest bitches in history. I would say that Dickinson has every right to state his opinion about that. He even had the curtesy to do so out of the public eye. Instead of going home and complaining about the new dog shit on her floor, sharon decides she is going to ruin the last maiden show of the tour. Most of the people there were there to see Maiden in all it’s glory, not Ozzy. They pay for thier outrageously priced ticket, they get to the show, and they have the show sabatoged by the very people they are paying to watch it. Sabbeth crossed the line when they crossed the fans. Maiden couldn’t have reated better. They finished the show with all the defiance and Fuck You that you expect from a true metal group. They put on a kickass show for all the true fans in the audiance. Then just to prove a point they go make one of thier best alblums ever just to show that while ozzy is failing as a singer and relying on the glory of the past to carry him into the future, Maidens still kicking ass and sounding better than ever.
I saw maiden on thier last North American show of their A Matter of Life and Deat tour. Bruce didn’t miss a note, he was sounding as good as on seventh son, better than he has in years. Ozzy may have been here first but he marred a bitch and Maiden will be here long after he is nothing more than a shattered shell of his former glory, o wait… he allready is.
