My Airport Express died

Posted on June 22, 2006 | Filed Under Apple

It’s a day of mourning in my household. One of my favorite Apple products died overnight and with all of the reading I’ve done this morning, there is no way to fix it.

I use the AirPort to connect to the Internet, of course, but more than that I use the AirPort Express to play music over my stereo system. That’s what I’m going to miss the most.

I tried all of the easy fixes for the Express, but the fact is the lights are out so it’s definitely a hardware problem. I tried to plug it into another outlet just in case, but no luck.

Don’t try replacing it in the EU after 7/1. :p

If you had it in an APC or other protective power supply, maybe they can reimburse you. A lot state that they will - assuming you had one going.

I just plugged mine into one.

I still haven’t picked up a new one yet.

Same here - and apparently it’s an ongoing problem with many other consumers. Just google keywords “airport died” or “airport dead” and you will see many other airport and airport express stations that have died just outside the warranty coverage - many after about 14 months. A class action suit against Apple sounds extreme, but I’ve seen it suggested. I’m awaiting their response.

      Jim,
Check out my blog at scottgsanders.wordpress.com to see my fix. It was quite simple and it is now up and running.
