Working with the Wordpress iPhone app
Posted by: | CommentsIf you are having problems getting the Wordpress iPhone app to work with your site, there is a fix for the problem. It turns out to be something to do with a server timeout and the RSD.
You can read more about the problem and grab the fixed function.php file here.
A $1.2 billion iPhone lawsuit
Posted by: | CommentsYou have got to be kidding me! These two people are allowed to bring a lawsuit against Apple and AT&T for $1.2 billion?
I don’t agree with a lot of what Apple has been doing with the iPhone and third-party applications, but I do agree that they should be able to lock the iPhone if they want. They have been very open about their deal with AT&T, so if you buy the phone, you know you’ll be using AT&T — deal with it.
But come on, $1.2 billion? These people and their lawyers should be made to pay for being so friggin’ retarded.
Competitors take advantage of closed iPhone
Posted by: | Comments
Now that Apple has effectively killed third-party application development for the iPhone, its competitors are touting how open they are. And you know what, it’s a damn good strategy for them to take.
Nokia and Microsoft have both come out saying that they are open and that’s the best way to be. “We believe the best devices have no limits. That’s why we’ve left the Nokia NSeries open. Open to applications. Open to Widgets. Open to anything,” says the homepage of Nokia’s new Web site.
Now before anyone gets all pissed off and starts sending me friggin’ email that I’ll delete, think about this. Apple had a whole community of people writing applications for the iPhone and it didn’t have to support them at all. What was the one thing Apple did do for them? Kick them in the teeth.
How to make people angry
Posted by: | CommentsI am so good at it. See here. The sad part is, I don’t write the stuff to make them mad, but they want to torture me anyway.
Can you post from an iPhone?
Posted by: | CommentsWell the short answer is you betcha! I’m writing and posting this directly on my iPhone. I logged into the Wordpress admin interface using Safari and just started typing away. Now, is this a huge deal? Well yeah, because it shows how much more you can actually do with the iPhone.
Finally got Spam Assassin working
Posted by: | CommentsSometimes I feel pretty stupid — this week was one of those times. I’ve been running my server without Spam Assassin because I really didn’t need it. However, lately it’s become necessary, so I decided to set it up.
Right away it started picking up spam email and marking it correctly. Then it started marking emails spam that really wasn’t spam. So I setup the Junkmail and Notjunkmail email boxes so I could train the Bayesian filters.
But it didn’t really work. Then I realized that there was no cron job setup, so the damn thing wasn’t learning anything. I downloaded Spamtrainer ran the fixes and the rules and everything is running fine now.
My Airport Express died
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s a day of mourning in my household. One of my favorite Apple products died overnight and with all of the reading I’ve done this morning, there is no way to fix it.
I use the AirPort to connect to the Internet, of course, but more than that I use the AirPort Express to play music over my stereo system. That’s what I’m going to miss the most.
I tried all of the easy fixes for the Express, but the fact is the lights are out so it’s definitely a hardware problem. I tried to plug it into another outlet just in case, but no luck.
Beatles lose lawsuit against Apple
Posted by: | CommentsWell, well — decision day is here and the Beatles lost their case against Apple. I don’t know what I expected, but I was kind of surprised that the decision was so succinct.
The Beatles parent company sued Apple because of a 1991 agreement that said Apple would not use its logo with music-related products. Seems like a violation, but under the law the judge said no.
Good for him. Steve Jobs was happy too — he even invited the Beatles to join iTunes. What a good guy that Steve is.
It’s not over yet though — the Beatles will appeal the decision. I guess that means we won’t see any Beatles on iTunes anytime soon.
Heading home after the Apple iPod nano event
Posted by: | CommentsMy plane just took off from San Francisco, so I’m probably somewhere between 30,000 and 40,000 feet in the air as I head home from attending Apple’s music event earlier this week. That was a damn fine event — it’s no wonder Apple is leading the way in this industry.
Of course the big announcements of the week were the iPod nano and the Motorola ROKR. I love my little nano — it was so cool, I’m almost afraid I might break it though.
The iTunes phone is another story — at least in my experience. I know some people have it working, but I wasn’t able to get it to work and neither were many others. That was disappointing to me, but that wasn’t the big thing for me anyway; the nano is the big announcement.
I love how Apple keeps changing the game on its competition. They aren’t changing the rules, they really are changing the game.
I’m looking forward to getting home and seeing Monique and the kids.
Why Does Windows have to be so stupid!
Posted by: | CommentsI sat there this afternoon looking at my daughters Dell wondering why the hell it had to be so difficult to join a wireless network. A Mac is so easy — turn it on and it finds the network for you. That’s it, nothing else.
